More about Tere
I have been a psychotherapist in metro Atlanta for over 30 years. I view our work as conversation about you and your life. Although I am interested in past experiences, the focus of our work is the present. We address the past only when it is interfering with your life in the here and now.
Our work will consist mostly of me listening and asking questions. I will offer perspective and interpretations in addition to what you may see.
All my life I have been curious about myself and others. I grew up in a family where faith and the spiritual world were part of everyday conversation. Over time I came to understand not just the benefits of faith but also how religious teachings can sometimes interfere with our own spirituality and well-being.
When I was 10, my family moved to Asia where I lived until I graduated from high school. Living in more than one culture is good training to be a therapist because you learn that there is always more than one way to see things. This and subsequent experience created in me a deep appreciation for diversity.

Education
Originally trained in psychodynamic and systems theories, I have kept up with innovations in various treatments as well as research about trauma and the impact of neurobiology on mental and emotional well-being. When appropriate our work will draw on insights from mindfulness, internal family systems, imago therapy, and bilateral stimulation.
My formal education includes an undergraduate degree in human services and social philosophy from Mercer University, an M.Div. from Emory’s Candler School of Theology, an M.S.W. from the University of Georgia, and a residency in pastoral counseling from Georgia Baptist Medical Center. I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and am a diplomate in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.
For me, this work is my ministry.
